We’ve all heard the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words!” Instagram is a fun way to share photos of what’s happening in your studio and just overall a fun way to add to marketing your studio. After noticing a lot of my students were using Instagram, I decided to take the plunge and open an Instagram account. I asked one of my students to assist with getting the word out and boy did she-by the end of her lesson I had about 11 or 12 followers. From there I began posting recital photos, pictures and crazy videos of students during lessons and it started to get “likes” from a ton of people! I am almost up to 100 followers on Instagram so I wanted to share what I like most about it and how it could possibly help your studio.


Does this really work…

I know some of you may be thinking, this is just another task to update on social media…does it really work? Yes, if you do it for fun!! Don’t go with the mindset of it has to bring you 5 new students by the end of the month or else it isn’t worth your time. Because, by no means am I saying Instagram will fill your studio to 400+ students, however it can attract about 4-5 customers to inquire and then they will decide to sign up or not.  You should choose to use it as a form of marketing and not advertising. Marketing is a way to inform your target customers about who you are and what you do, so that they can make an informative decision on signing up for your services. There’s so much thought that goes into a customer choosing to use a product, that they need to see your product from many different viewpoints. If you continue to always market your studio, by the time you decide to advertise all you will need to do is notify customers of available time slots.


Who to connect with

Connect with other businesses in your area and shout them out when you use their product and then when they use your service ask them to give you a shout out. For instance if you perform somewhere, have that venue or host leave a comment about how well the students played at the facility or how well you packed the facility and show a photo. If you order flowers from the local florist, take a photo and post a thank you comment with their business name.  Ask your parents and students to follow you on Instagram and post photos of their children.


The building process….

Using tags in your listing-I use hash tags that contain names to local areas around my studio, my city and , landmarks, major theaters and/or stores etc. so that people in my state using instagram can easily search those tags and see a photo of my studio. Create a hashtag with your studio name and attach it to every photo and ask your parents to do the same when uploading studio photos or things that pertain to music lessons. Their followers will search those hashtags and therefore be able to find out about your studio through that photo.  

Once again, Instagram is just a fun way to promote your studio and all of the awesome things you do in your studio. If you go into it with an open mind of having fun and not being too serious you will be surprised at all of the fun connections you will make as well as new students who will sign up.

P.S. I don’t follow my students back, lol…I think I’m better off not knowing what’s happening at their homes….!!!!
